Adblock (DNS filtering) lists
The two tables below contain the standard Adblock/DNS filtering lists that can be used in current versions of FreshTomato. The first table contains frequently updated lists. The bottom table contains outdated blocklists and lists that haven't been updated for a long time.
When choosing lists, pay attention to the list size. Older routers with less RAM won't support large lists. Small and medium lists were created for those routers. By default, the maximum size is equivalent to roughly 6% of RAM. Thus, a router with 256Mb of RAM, such as the Netgear R7000 will allow up to ~16 MB to be used. This value can be overwritten in the settings, however it may lead to instability. If you need more storage, you can connect a flash drive to provide additional (and permanent) storage. When using USB stoage, the default allocation is 10%. For example, with a flash drive connected, a 256MB router would have roughly 25 Megabytes to use for ad lists.
Choose lists carefully, being mindful of resource utilization. Often, less is more. Use the lists that contain things you wish to filter. rather than a “kitchen sink” approach. This can reduce resource usage and increase filtering speed.
The name of each list also contains a link to its website. There, you can learn who maintains it, the criteria for blocked content, and (possibly) how to propose additions/alterations to it if you find it is allowing content to pass which contradicts its goals.
Valid sources must conform to the format of a standard system hosts file.
